João Manuel de Morais Barros Fernandes, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Coimbra (UC) since 1999. Graduated in Physics / Applied Mathematics (specialization in Astronomy), University Porto (1991) and a PhD in Astrophysics and Space Techniques, University of Paris VII (1996). His areas of research are the formation and evolution of stars, solar physics and the history of astronomy in Portugal. He has published about 80 research papers in international journals and proceedings of scientific conferences. Has been active on the divulgation of science (mainly giving lectures in schools) and was the single point of national contact for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, by appointment of the International Astronomical Union. Received the "Faces of the Future" distinction of "Vision" magazine in 2013. Currently is deputy director of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra, responsible for the Astronomical and Geophysical Observatory of the UC (since 2013) and coordinator of the Center of Geophysics of the UC (since 2013). |

José Manuel Martins de Azevedo José Manuel Martins de Azevedo is Assistant Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Coimbra since 1999 and he is the Scientific Coordinator of Geosciences M.Sc. of the University of Coimbra. He obtained a PhD in eological Engineering (Hydrogeology and Water Resources) by the University of Coimbra, in the year of 1999, and MSc in geology from the same university, in 1988. He has participated and also coordinated several research projects in the domain of groundwater resources domain. Also, he has been developed a great work in what concern the supervision of 21 post-graduate students (18 master; 2 doctoral; 1 post-doctoral). Paulo Ribeiro He has a degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Aveiro (1993) and Master in Dynamic Geology (with specialization in Geodynamics), University of Lisbon (1998). He is currently senior technician (area of Atmospheric Physics and Geophysics) at the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra (OGAUC); with responsibilities in the operation, maintenance and modernization of their magnetic and meteorological observatories. Has developed further studies at the Research Centre of the Earth and Space of the University of Coimbra (CITEUC) in the areas of: (1) Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (with emphasis on the study of the issues and methods of geomagnetic observation, and in identifying and interpreting changes in spatio-temporal properties of the geomagnetic field, as well as the processes of interaction Sun-Earth and Space Weather); (2) Paleomagnetism and Magnetism of Rocks (with special attention to the processes of acquisition and re-magnetization, and its implications in tectonics and geodynamics studies of Iberia); (3) History of Science (with particular interest in the historical development of geophysics in Portugal). |

Pedro Miguel Callapez Tonicher He Is member of the F.C.T.U.C. Earth Sciences Department since November of 1988 and Assistant Teacher since July of 1998, after finishing a PhD on the Upper Cretaceous of Portugal. Since 2002 is member of the Italian and Spanish Societies of Malacology and still researching on modern and Pleistocene mollusks. From 2004 to 2010 was the last coordinator of the Museum of Mineralogy and Geology of the University of Coimbra, a museological structure that is presently in course of modernization as part of the whole Museum of Science. Since 2008 is member of the international scientific committee charged of the exhibition planning of the new Museum of Science of the University of Coimbra. Is also a member of the new scientific teem for the curation of the collections. He is member of the CGUC since early 2008, and was Coordinator of this Unit of I&D from 2009 to June of 2010.His main research areas are the Stratigraphy and invertebrate Palaeontology of the Upper Cretaceous, with emphasis on mollusc systematics, palaeoecology and palaeoclimatology. He is also an active researcher on Zooarchaeology and Pleistocene marine and land molluscan assemblages. At the same time he develops work on the history of Geology and Paleontology, both teaching, early field work and researches, and historic museology. |

Vanda Arlete Faria dos Santos Vanda Faria dos Santos is a scientific researcher at the National Natural History Museum of Lisbon University since 2004. She obtained her European Ph.D. with the thesis "Pistas de dinossáurio no Jurássico-Cretácico de Portugal. Considerações paleobiológicas e paleoecológicas" at the University Autonoma of Madrid. She is an author and co-author in more than 100 papers, which were published in scientific journals, books and proceedings of national and international conferences. Her main scientific area of research is Vertebrate Palaeontology (Dinosaurs from Portugal) and Palaeoichnology. Nuno Peixinho is Science and Technology Manager at the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra and Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, affiliated with the CITEUC - Center for Earth and Space Science Reseach of the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and with the UAUA - Unidad de Astronomía de la Universidade de Antofagasta (Chile), since 2015. He is PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics by the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (Portugal), in 2005, in a shared thesis between the Observatoire de Paris (France), supervised by Dr. Alain Doressoundiram and Dr. Antonella Barucci, and the Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics of the University of Lisbon (Portugal), supervised by Dr. Maarten Roos-Serote. Responsable for the renovation of the spetroheliograph with help of Paris Observatory (Meudon) and the introduction of the digital method in the spetroheliograph with the help of Ondrejov Observatory (Czech Rep.) Several periods of training in Meudon, Ondrejov, NASA. Contributor of the electronic newspaper "Helios". Solar Observations during the week and the weekend. Participation in different International Congresses with oral presentations and posters. Every year she gives presentations for hundreds of students that visit the spetroheliograph. Co-author in more than 30 scientific articles. |

David Alegre Vaz Research Postdoctoral researcher at CITEUC and CERENA. I am currently developing new tools to assist in the analysis of several types of geomorphological structures using remote sensing data of planetary surfaces. These tools enable for instance the study of past tectonic and erosive processes on Mars, as well as the analysis of present day aeolian activity at the surface of the planet. |

Figueiredo (b. 1970) has a degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Porto University and an MSc in History and Philosophy of Science from Nova University of Lisbon. He got his PhD from Coimbra University with a thesis on the scientific work of José Monteiro da Rocha (1734-1819) on the Faculty of Mathematics and at the Astronomical Observatory of Coimbra University, between 1772 and 1820. Currently he is post-doc research at the Department of Mathematics/Astronomical Observatory of the University of Coimbra and at the Centre François Viète, epistemology, history of science and techniques, at Nantes University (France). His research interests are History of Science and History of Education, particularly in the fields of astronomy and mathematics. Currently, he is researching the history of astronomy and the teaching of mathematics and astronomy at the Faculty of Mathematics and at the Astronomical Observatory of the Coimbra University (OAUC),in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. He is trying to understand the extent to which the major advances in celestial mechanics were assimilated and incorporated into the astronomical activity of the OAUCand on its paradigmatic astronomical ephemeris. |

Maria Teresa de Abrunhosa Barata Maria Teresa de Abrunhosa Barata is a Geologist graduate from the University of Coimbra and develops her activity as Assistant Researcher at Centre for Geophysics. She concluded her Science Master and PhD degrees (Engineering Sciences) at Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Libsoa in 1993 and 2001. Her main scientific areas of research are image analysis, mathematical morphology and remote sensing. She has published more than 65 papers in Scientific Journals, Books and International Conferences Proceedings. She has participated in several national and international R & D Projects. Currently her scientific activity has been developed in the domain of Planetary Geosciences, particularly in the development of new methodologies of image analysis, pattern recognition and mathematical morphology applied to geological recognition of planetary surfaces. From July of 2010 to March of 2013 was the coordinator of the Centre for Geophysics at the University of Coimbra. Currently she is member of CITEUC's board of directors. |
